Family Photography in Palos Verdes: Spring Wildflower Edition

May 13, 2025

Spring is more than just a season.. it’s a feeling. A celebration of new beginnings and nature coming to life. And when the wildflowers bloom in Palos Verdes, it’s pure magic! If you’ve been dreaming of a relaxed, natural family photo session that feels as beautiful as it looks, spring just might be the perfect time. In this post, I’ll share why Palos Verdes shines in the spring, my favorite location, and a few helpful tips to plan a photography session your family will love.

The Beauty of Spring in Palos Verdes

Spring in Palos Verdes is truly a photographer’s dream. As the season unfolds, the peninsula’s beauty really shines as the perfect time for your family photo session. The wildflowers bloom in pops of yellow and purple, the greenery is more vibrant, and the ocean sparkles under blue skies. The light in spring is especially magical- gentle, golden, and incredibly flattering for natural portraits.

Why Spring is the Perfect Season for Family Photography in Palos Verdes

There’s something effortlessly joyful about spring! A fresh energy that just feels right. There’s also Mother’s Day in May, and motherhood sessions among the wildflowers are pure perfection. Spring generally comes with mild weather and overall less pressure without the stress of getting your family photos done before the holidays. I highly recommend checking your yearly “fall photos” off the list in spring!

Spring also offers stunning natural colors that create a beautiful backdrop. Think soft greens, pastel wildflowers, and clear blue skies. These tones make your images feel light, airy, and timeless. Perfect for printing, framing, or sharing online.

Best Spring Location in Palos Verdes for Family Photos

The greenery area across from St. Francis Church in Palos Verdes is one of my favorite locations for family photos in the spring. After the new year, the wait is on for the wildflowers to bloom! The vibrant green grass usually comes first, followed by the flowers, which can be purple, white, or yellow. It’s so fun each year to see what we get! The light comes through the trees so beautifully at this location, and there’s an area overlooking the ocean that provides stunning sunset views. It’s easy to see why St. Francis Church in Palos Verdes is a favorite spring family photography location.

Tips for Planning a Spring Family Session

  • Schedule Around Golden Hour – Spring time light is soft and flattering, especially in the hour before sunset. This “golden hour” gives your photos a warm, dreamy glow that makes skin radiant and skies beautifully golden.
  • Choose Outfits That Complement the Season – Spring is perfect for light, breezy colors like pastels and neutrals. Coordinating without matching is key- think texture, layers, and tones that complement the natural surroundings.
  • Keep Little Ones Happy and Comfortable – Bring water and easy to eat snacks for kids. Make sure they are wearing clothes they can run and play in. Comfort is everything when it comes to capturing natural, joyful images. And don’t worry about getting them to “pose” or “say cheese” – the best images come from simply letting them play and explore.
  • Book Early – Especially if you are hoping to have your photo session among the wildflowers! There’s a short window for catching the flowers, so by reaching out early we can be sure to secure a date that allows us to get the look you want.

What to Expect From Your Spring Family Photo Session

I focus on creating a session that feels more like a fun outing with your family than a formal photo shoot. We’ll laugh, explore, and capture genuine interactions. I’ll offer gentle direction, whether that’s guiding you into the best light or helping your kids feel like they’re just playing. But ultimately I’m there to see the way your baby melts into your arms or how your toddler tugs your hand to show you a flower they just discovered. It’s in these in-between moments of just hanging out and playing that the real magic happens.

Don’t miss out on this beautiful time of year for family photos. A spring family photography session in Palos Verdes is more than just a chance to update your portraits; it’s a way to capture this season of life in one of the most beautiful places in Southern California! Surrounded by wildflowers, golden light, and the people you love most.

I love true to life color and simple edits. I want your photos to stand the test of time. I love glowy golden hour light just as much as I love soulful black and whites. I love when you look at a photo and feel the image more than you see the image. I love laughter and silliness and quiet and connection. I love the unique story that gets told with every person I have the honor of working with.
