If your blog post's featured images are fairly low resolution, you may want to delete the top image canvas. Your blog will still look gorgeous, but the top banner section looks best when you upload an image that's 2500px on the long side. You can also use our fave TinyJpeg to make them small so your blog posts still load quickly!

Beach Family Photography in Los Angeles | A Playful Sunset Session

March 28, 2026

This recent beach family photography session in Los Angeles was everything I love — playful, joy-filled, and beautifully unscripted. Mom, dad, and their sweet daughter spent the evening chasing waves, sharing sandy hugs, and soaking in that glowy golden hour light that makes everything feel just a little more magical.

And truly… this is where the magic happens.

The in-between.

My Approach to Beach Family Photography in Los Angeles

If you’ve ever felt nervous about booking family photos — wondering if your kids will cooperate, or if it will feel awkward — I want you to let that go.

Because my approach is different.

It’s relaxed.
It’s intuitive.
It’s rooted in connection over perfection.

I’m not here to make your family fit into a pose.

I’m here to create space for your family to be yourselves — and reflect that back to you in a way that feels honest and beautiful.

As so many of my clients have shared, sessions with me feel easy, calm, and even fun.

That’s always my goal.

To take something that can feel overwhelming… and turn it into something you actually enjoy.

How I Help You Prepare (So You Can Actually Enjoy It)

I know how heavy the mental load can feel leading up to family photos. From the moment you book, I guide you through everything in a way that feels simple, supportive, and never overwhelming. You’ll receive thoughtful tips to help you feel prepared, and I’ll walk you through what to expect so there are no surprises.

When it comes to your kids (and honestly, your partner too), I always encourage keeping it light and low-pressure. Let them know you’re heading to the beach to have fun together. That’s the goal. No need for anyone to “perform.” We’ll play, explore, and let things unfold naturally — because that’s where the most meaningful moments live.

And styling? I’ve got you there too.

I provide a style guide filled with easy, approachable suggestions — think soft, neutral tones, flowy pieces, and outfits that feel like you while blending beautifully with the beach setting. I also share inspiration from past sessions and blog posts so you can actually see what works.

And if you’re unsure (which is completely normal), you can always send me photos of what you’re considering. I’m happy to give honest, thoughtful feedback so everyone feels comfortable, confident, and like themselves.

Because when you feel good… everything else falls into place.

Why the Beach Is Perfect for Family Photos in Los Angeles

When it comes to beach family photography in Los Angeles, there’s a reason I come back to the ocean again and again.

The beach gives kids space to explore.
It invites movement, play, and connection.
And the light… especially at sunset… is pure magic.

It naturally creates the kind of environment where families can relax, open up, and just be together.

And when that happens?

Everything else falls into place.

A family holds hands in the ocean together as they take beach family photos in Los Angeles.

BEHIND THE LENS

MEET Jenna

Photographer, mother, beach lover, yogi, baker, and incessant picture taker.  Inspired by light, connection, and you.

I love true to life color and simple edits. I want your photos to stand the test of time. I love glowy golden hour light just as much as I love soulful black and whites. I love when you look at a photo and feel the image more than you see the image. I love laughter and silliness and quiet and connection. I love the unique story that gets told with every person I have the honor of working with.
