There was something especially tender about this session and this little girl—one of those quiet, heart-melting moments that reminds me why I love being a Manhattan Beach family photographer.

She stayed close to mom and dad the entire session. Her tiny hands wrapped tightly around theirs, cheek tucked gently into mom’s shoulder whenever the world felt a little too big. And in her other hand? Her little yellow ducky, held on to with such quiet determination, like a small piece of comfort she wasn’t quite ready to let go of.

It would be easy to think a session needs big smiles or constant energy to feel “successful.” But moments like these tell a different, deeper story.

This is exactly why, as a Manhattan Beach family photographer, I always follow a child’s lead.

There’s no expectation to perform, no pressure to be anything other than who they are in that moment. Whether that looks like running freely along the shoreline or staying safely nestled in mom and dad’s arms.

And what unfolded was so beautiful in its own quiet way.

Soft glances. Little fingers gripping tight. Mom swaying with her as the waves rolled in behind them. Her little yellow ducky making its way into frame again and again—a small, sweet detail that will one day hold so much meaning.

Because this stage? It matters too.

The shy seasons. The clingy phases. The comfort items they carry everywhere. These are the pieces of childhood that pass so quickly, and deserve to be remembered just as deeply.

And somehow, in honoring exactly where she was, we captured it all.

The love. The safety. The way she felt most like herself, right there between her parents, holding her little yellow ducky as the sun set behind them at the Manhattan Beach Pier.
