The early newborn days are a beautiful blur of snuggles, feedings, endless diapers, and figuring out life with this new little person. And there’s also the reality of postpartum and all that comes with the healing process as you recover from labor and delivery. It’s important to take care of yourself and not push yourself to do too much too soon.

One significant benefit of choosing in home newborn photography in Los Angeles is the simple fact that you don’t have to leave your house! No packing up all the baby’s stuff, no stressing if you forgot something, or having to move around more than your body is ready for. You get to stay in your familiar space, snuggled up with your baby and partner. And this is a huge benefit to doing newborn photos at home.

Flexibility to follow baby’s lead.

Newborns move to their own rhythm, and being at home lets us follow baby’s lead. In-home newborn sessions unfold slowly and naturally. We pause for feedings, diaper changes, or a little extra soothing whenever needed. There’s no pressure to rush through the session. I typically spend about 1–2 hours in your home, though we’re only photographing a fraction of that time. The rest is time for you to care for your baby, settle in, and simply be together.

When you add siblings into the mix for a newborn shoot, being at home is even more important. Kids are able to be themselves more when they are in their familiar space. Things like having snacks readily available and being able to take breaks to play with their toys is incredibly helpful for keeping kids happy and engaged so you can get those natural moments of your family together. And some of the sweetest photos are those simple moments just playing on the floor together or reading books and snuggling in bed.

When doing an in home newborn photography session, I love having the option to go outside. Sometimes if baby is having trouble calming down, a little fresh air is all it takes to turn things around. We can get beautiful shots on your front porch or in the backyard. This provides another way to document your family naturally at home, while also honoring what your baby needs. And the beautiful weather of Los Angeles always makes this a great idea.
